Making wedding cakes is more than baking and frosting cakes -- it is art that tells a story. When I design a wedding cake, I take ideas, colors, impressions, style, taste, and even beliefs from my brides and grooms to individualize their wedding celebration in cake. Of course, some grooms love to see their alma mater, a tractor, a hobby such as chess, or even a favorite hat made from cake.
Just as important as the artistic impression of the cake is flavor. Not only should your guests be "WOWed" by the presentation of the cake, but they should also sigh with pleasure when they take their first bite. I am committed to the freshest, most high-quality ingredients for both my cakes and icings.

Our Story
People often ask me how long I've been making cakes. I smile and say, "almost as long as I can remember." When I was four years old, my big brother Ciro married his high school sweetheart. They both went to a vocational high school in Massachusetts. My wonderful sister-in-law, Harriet, graduated from the bakery department with amazing skills at both baking and decorating cakes. She was then, and still is now, more to me than a sister-in-law -- she became my teacher, and she'll always be my dear friend.
I remember clearly when I was about five years old, Harriet putting a pastry bag filled with frosting in my hand and showing me how to make a border on a birthday cake. With her patience and kind tutelage, I piped icing borders, flowers, leaves and all kinds of beautiful, detailed decorations onto a multiplicity of cakes. Hari . . . I owe you!
I won my first art award in Kindergarten for a drawing of a horse fleeing a mountaintop fire. My drawing took a real story and brought it to life on paper. Isn't that what art should do -- imitate life? Whether the cake looks like a garden of summer blossoms, so life-like that you want to breath in their fragrance, or whether the cake is adorned with flowers that do not exactly exist in nature, but are impressionistic, the cake should exemplify beauty of life in nature. Even when geometric shapes embellish the cake, the symmetry or asymmetry should be splendid.
When I was nine years old, I was awarded an art scholarship for drawing and painting to the Museum of Fine Arts in Springfield, Massachusetts. I learned things about color and light that I've taken with me through the rest of my life. And throughout my formative years, art played a dynamic part.

Couture Cakes with Sugarpaste Art Embellishments!!!
Today’s Couture Cakes are embellished with Sugarpaste Art. This is where Signature Cakes really shines! This is the WOW factor. This is high style and cake art design at its finest. This is what makes your wedding cake a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that is your “Signature Cake!” We hand form and make the flowers, ribbons, lace, pearls, roping, filigree, leaves, fruit, patterns, bows, jeweled broaches, sea shells, tiny shoes, birds and many other accessories from sugarpaste, fondant or molding chocolate. Groom and Special Event cakes also have details formed from sugarpaste, fondant or chocolate in shapes such as chess pieces, fish, tractors, pool balls . . . imagination is the limit. These are not caricatures, but life-like images, with color and “movement” that is found in life and nature.
Many of the embellishments are colored before they are formed, but all are hand painted with details that exemplify realism. Many brides want glimmer and brilliance on their special day. To accomplish this we hand brush with luster dust, super pearl, gold, silver, or copper highlights. The colors of each tiny ornament are lifelike and radiant. Color and light bring things to life! All our embellishments are edible.
Tastings & Consultations
Each "Signature Cake" wedding cake is a one-of-a-kind original couture cake. No two cakes are ever the same.
Here's how we design your original wedding cake:
1. Call to set up your complimentary consultation and tasting. This time is reserved for you and your groom, mother, attendants or anyone who will help to make your decisions easier. I schedule an hour to an hour and a half of personal time so that we can discuss every idea or concept that is important in designing your cake.
2. Bring swatches of fabric, whether from your wedding or just fabrics you love. Bring pictures of cakes. Bring pictures of other elements of the wedding, such as flowers, dinnerware and venue. Bring anything that will help me understand your style and fashion sense.
3. Photographs of your bridal gown, veil, shoes and jewelry can sometimes be used as an image to duplicate onto your cake.
4. Then we look through pictures of my cakes. Most of the time, brides pick many different cakes that don't seem to be similar. It can sometimes be overwhelming and confusing. My secret is to listen to what you say. Usually there are certain elements that the bride choses over and over. That's how we begin to narrow it down.
5. Once we decide on style, then it's time to decide on size, shape, and color.
6. Next, we make ornamentation decisions, such as sugarpaste flowers, leaves, ribbons, draping, bows, lacework, birds, tiny shoes, crowns, monograms, or other handmade elements. We also decide where to highlight with gold, silver, lusterdust or pearlized colors.
7. In the last stages, I bring our ideas to life by drawing with oil pastels on my sketchpad, which is placed on an easel. By the time we are done, we can see the detailed ideas and concepts that will become your wedding cake. The sketch is the "blueprint for elegance" for your wedding cake.
