Our Story
SPD was started in 2004 with a single raspberry cheesecake and has been growing by leaps and bounds ever since. In 2005, all day jobs were abandoned and effort was put into developing the portfolio and reputation of the top cake designer in the state. In January of 2008 we opened the first retail wedding cake shop in Alaska (and don't forget the cafe seating, drive thru, pastries, and Kaladi Brother's coffee!).
SPD is a fairly small operation handled by a single baker. This goes miles to ensure that no part of your order will be lost in translation. Besides being the owner/pastry chef/designer/delivery driver/barista, etc... I am a 2001 graduate of California Culinary Academy's Baking and Pastry Arts program. This training allows me to ensure that the inside is just as great as the outside of your confection... after all, at the end of the day it is still food and should be enjoyed. I have built this business from the ground up because of my love for the science of baking, the art of design, and the looks on the faces of satisfied customers.

Our Claim to Fame
We have built a solid reputation for cakes that are moist and scratch baked in a huge variety of styles and flavors. Our confections are not sickly sweet and we use a light, meringue based buttercream - which means you can actually eat and enjoy your cake!
Our Specialties
While we are willing and have the skills to work in any medium, we do prefer the look and versatility that fondant provides (don't denounce it yet! We use a really tasty top-shelf brand and roll it thinly over a full coating of buttercream). Scrollwork and intricate piping are probably our signature moves, but our true specialty is our ability work in as many mediums and styles as there are brides requesting them.
Tastings & Consultations
Tasting consultations are by appointment only. The fee of $35 includes samples, design time, and beverages and is applied toward the final payment of the order. Officially, the number of guests is not limited, but we have found that more than 3 additional guests can be distracting and frustrating to the bride. This appointment should be scheduled as soon as possible, due to limited space available for wedding cakes. We recommend ordering your cake no later than 2 months before your wedding. |
